More Room to Bond

On August 4, we were thrilled to finally “give birth” to the new Glen and Rosemarie Wright Mother-Baby Unit – a patient-and-family-centered space that gives our new families more room to bond.

The Baird 7 unit features 28 patient beds in 25 patient rooms, dramatically reducing double occupancy that many families have experienced on the previous unit, Shepardson 5. Each room also has its own adjoining bathroom.

  • Rooms for families to stay in when their babies remain in the hospital after mom has been discharged
  • Patients (mothers and babies) will no longer have to leave the room for most procedures
  • Comfortable in-room sleeping and resting space for mom’s partner/support person
  • Close proximity to the birthing center and the neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU)

There have been so many aspects of their care in [the previous] space that just aren’t perfect. Having private rooms and bathrooms, a family-centered place where fathers can be an integral part of those first few days... it’s very exciting!”

Staff held their own ribbon-cutting right before they started moving new moms the new space. On hand to do the honors was Hope Wasilesky, who had been patiently awaiting her baby for over two months while on bed rest here.
